Made To Order: Lacto Fermentation Jar
My take on a traditional Sichuan Pao Cai (Pickle) Jar. The wide body and narrow opening help keep contents submerged in brine with no need for weights. Pour water into the moat surrounding the opening & cover with lid to keep oxygen and contaminants out while letting gas from the fermentation out. Perfect for making lacto-fermented pickles, kimchi, as well as great for storing onions, garlic and dry goods.
Each piece is covered in an off-white bubbley crater glaze on the exterior with large blue and terracotta polka dots. Interior of the jar is completely glazed in white. Due to being handmade, please allow some variation in size, shape and finish from the one pictured.
Jars measure approximately 9” tall and 7” in diameter and holds about 2 quarts.
